Oura Ring Battery Life Issues and how to avoid them

A fully charged Oura ring might endure for up to a week but recently some cases of Oura Ring Battery Life Issues have created doubts. Depending on how often you use functions like Training Pulse Rate, the Explore button, and Oxygen Levels Sensing might have an impact on how long the battery in your ring will last.

Given that they are consumables with an established lifespan, the capacity and performance of all rechargeable batteries degrade over time.

Depending on how low the battery is in your Oura Ring, charging time can range from 20 to 80 minutes. In the top right of the Main screen on your mobile app, you’ll see a battery symbol that may be used to view the current charge.

Oura Ring Battery Information

The premium, wedding band-shaped Oura Ring measures your daily activities, health, and wellness. In contrast to bulky activity trackers or smartwatches, the Ring is comfortable to wear all day and is easy to conceal. Oura ring is amazing, but I’m concerned about its battery life.

The Oura Ring is powered by a lithium polymer (LiPo) battery source that ranges in capacity from 15 mAh (US6 size) to 22 mAh (US13 size) and is both rechargeable and non-replaceable. Depending on the battery’s age and how frequently you use the Ring’s live monitoring functions, Oura claims it can last up to 7 days.

The Oura Ring has a practical battery life of 4-7 days before needing to be recharged. It’s the performance you’d anticipate from a battery being pushed to its limits. Long-term use, especially over several years, is likely to degrade its efficiency.

Potential Causes of Oura Ring Battery Life Issues

  • Negative effects may occur if your ring charges for longer than a week.
  • Prolonged charging at the fullest limit can drastically shorten battery life.
  • Prolonged immersion in either sweltering heat or frigid cold
  • It’s not great for the ring’s longevity if you let the battery die completely. Keep your ring’s battery between 30 and 80 percent for optimal performance.

Even though the Oura Ring wearable fitness tracker comes with cutting-edge technology that shrunk down to the size and weight of a wedding band, it still has some limitations. If any battery issues occur, it is difficult for an average person to fix them. Oura Ring has a luxury style and intelligent functionality, but it is a tightly integrated wearable without a removable battery.

Ways to Maximize the Lifespan of Your Oura Ring Battery Life

The battery in an Oura Ring cannot be removed or replaced without first breaking the ring. To maintain the Oura Ring’s battery healthily and extend its life, however, you should follow certain charging best practices:

  • Make sure your Ring’s battery stays above 30% at all times. The ring should be charged daily, so bringing the charger wherever you go is a good idea.
  • Don’t let the ring’s battery die completely. On the Oura app’s Home tab, tap the hamburger menu followed by Settings > Notifications > “Battery level.”
  • Oura Ring battery life can be prolonged by placing it in Power Saving Mode through the mobile app and storing it in a cool, dry area when not in use.
  • Get your Ring’s battery level up to at least 60%.
  • You can remove your Ring from your phone’s Bluetooth settings menu. Your Oura Ring automatically enters a power-saving mode as soon as the time is right.
  • Overcharging significantly accelerates battery degradation. Thus you should not leave your Ring on the charging station for long periods. Once the Ring’s charging indicator light stops blinking, it’s ready to be removed from the dock.
  • You may reduce the Ring’s power consumption and extend its battery life by activating Airplane Mode on the Oura app’s Home > My Oura ring menu.
  • When charging your Oura Ring, make sure you’re just using the USB cable that came with it. If you want to charge your Ring, you’ll need a 5V DC wall adapter that complies with the IEC 62368-1 standard.
  • A Ring’s battery life will decrease when subjected to extreme temperatures. Therefore, you might want to limit your time in a hot tub, sauna, or ice bath while wearing the Ring.

How to Efficiently Use Oura Ring Battery

Ensure that the battery of your ring remains at least 30% charged constantly. Developing a habit of charging your ring daily is possible if you make the charger easily accessible, such as by keeping it in your pouch, car, bag, or desk.

Consider charging your ring when you are not engaging in demanding activities, like washing dishes, working on the computer, showering, or cooking. Additional suggestions for conserving battery life are outlined below.

Switch to Flight Mode

To get the longest possible battery life out of your ring, we recommend activating Airplane Mode. Battery life can be prolonged by disabling the Bluetooth connection of your ring and phone.

Turn on Low Power Alerts

Turn on Low battery alerts in the Oura App to get alerts before bedtime when the power in your Oura Ring is getting low.

  • Select Home from the menu in the top left of the screen.
  • Select Settings, then go to Notifications.
  • Turn on alerts regarding battery life.

Remember that if the ring is set to Airplane Mode, you will not receive any alerts.

Keep Your Battery Safe

The USB charging cable is designed to be powered with an external 5Vdc source that meets the requirements of international standard IEC 62368-1. To prevent early battery depletion, the power consumption of the equipment must not exceed 15W within three seconds.

Use with a Single Electronic Device

One Oura Ring, one Oura Account, and one Oura Device are the recommended setup and use for the Oura Ring. Data loss, communication challenges, and increased power consumption can occur when several individuals or sources of data are input into the same account.

Storage when Oura Ring is not in Use

If you’re going to stop wearing your ring for an extended period, say greater than two weeks, then you should put it on Power Save Mode before putting it away.

Night Charge Requirement

Ensure that the ring has at least a 30% charge to record your sleep activity properly. Charge it before sleeping if it is low. Enjoy your sleep statistics without any interruption by keeping the optimum battery levels.

If you fail to do so, you’ll still get a nighttime and morning alarm, but there won’t be any further information provided, such as a Rest or Readiness Score or a summary of your stages of sleep, HRV, respiration rate, or heart rate during rest.

Does the Guarantee cover the Oura Ring’s Battery?

Oura’s 1-year limited guarantee does not cover usual wear and tear and consumable elements like the battery on its Gen 3 Oura Rings. Rechargeable batteries generally have a slow but steady loss of capacity and performance over time, which is why Oura does not include battery replacement in its guarantee policy.

It’s probably a defective product if your Ring doesn’t meet Oura’s expected battery life estimates right out of the box. In such a case, head over to Oura’s support page and open a ticket requesting a replacement while still covered by warranty.

Summary

The battery capacity of each Oura Ring size differs. Thus the typical lifespan of a fully charged Ring is four to seven days (US 6-13). Battery life may also be impacted by the Ring’s ability to detect heart rate and blood oxygen levels in real time. If you’d like to save battery life and get more out of your tracker, you can disable such functionalities throughout the day.

The length of time you’ve had your Oura Ring also plays a role in its performance, as all rechargeable batteries eventually lose some of their charges. Your Oura Ring’s battery life will be prolonged if you consistently keep its charge between 30% and 80%.
